Empowering Education Through Digital Transformation: Jamaica's Initiative

On March 25, 2025, Jamaica took a bold step toward educational reform with the launch of the 'Empowering Jamaica’s Future: Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Joint Programme on Digital Transformation for Education. This ambitious three-year initiative, led by UNESCO in collaboration with the Government of Jamaica and other global partners, is designed to modernise the national education system through strategic digital innovation.

Targeting over 450,000 students, the programme aims to bridge the digital divide by expanding access to technology, enhancing digital literacy, and  integrating innovative tools into teaching and learning processes. By equipping educators and students with the skills and resources needed for the digital age, the initiative is poised to improve learning outcomes, promote equity, and strengthen Jamaica’s human capital development. More than a technological upgrade, this

transformation marks a pivotal shift in how education is delivered, laying the foundation for a  more inclusive, resilient, and future-ready Jamaican education system. The National Council on Education (NCE) encourages School Board Chairmen and members to tap into this spectacular initiative and ensure that the schools placed in their charge are  fully engaged and, therefore, stand to benefit from this critical process.

About Us

The establishment of the NCE was born out of the need to have a non-partisan, national and strategically placed organisation that would "address a wide range of issues impacting the education process".
