To: School Board Chairpersons & Members:
The National Council on Education extends heartfelt sympathies to all Jamaicans who have suffered the loss of loved ones, and to those whose properties and livelihoods were impacted by the passage of Hurricane Melissa. To our fellow citizens who are grieving, we offer our deepest condolences and pray that you may find comfort and strength during this tragic and challenging period.
Standing Together as a Nation
Our nation is undoubtedly facing unprecedented challenges. As we navigate this difficult period, the Council implores everyone to demonstrate empathy, compassion, and simple acts of kindness, recognizing that many have been severely impacted and are experiencing hardship. May we stand together in unity to rebuild lives and restore our communities—each one being our brothers’ and sisters’ keeper.
Appreciation for School Board Members
To our Board Chairpersons and members who continue to dedicate their time and effort to ensuring that our schools are effectively governed, I extend heartfelt gratitude. The National Council on Education deeply appreciates your unwavering commitment to the nation’s children. May you be strengthened as you work to restore normality in our schools and ensure that our children continue on a path of growth and development. We encourage you to explore creative and innovative strategies to ensure the continuity of learning and prevent any form of learning loss at all costs.
Partnership for Reopening of Schools
We stand with the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information in acknowledging that each school’s situation is unique. Where possible, we support and encourage the early reopening of schools to provide a sense of stability for our children. We, therefore, urge you to assess your school’s readiness and use your influence to support and facilitate this effort in collaboration with the Ministry and other key stakeholders.
Thank you for your tireless efforts. We look forward to your continued commitment to the nation’s children.
May God bless you, your families, and Jamaica, land we love.
Sincerely,
Dr. Herbert Gayle
